A new report in the French press has continued to stoke rumours of a major Leeds United takeover.
Respected daily sport paper l’Equipe have published the latest, which suggests that PSG owners Qatar Sports Investment (QSI) remain interested in buying the club from its current chairman, Andrea Radrizzani.
Rumours of the interest , with suggestions that chairman of QSI and the Middle East based BeIn Media Group, Nasser Al-Khelaifi was to personally discuss a potential takeover with Radrizzani.
The Leeds owner himself confirmed the interest in an interview published last month, verifying his professional relationship with Al-Khelaifi and teasing the potential of a takeover, suggesting Leeds could ‘ get to the level of Man City ’ under their ownership.
Since PSG was taken over by the shareholding firm, backed by the state of Qatar, they’ve won six Ligue 1 titles and become a major player in European football, signing the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
L’Equipe’s new report suggests that QSI view the club as “an opportunity, it’s interesting and it’s a big name in English football that we can help develop and bring back (to the Premier League)” and “a very beautiful brand with which we can recreate a story”.
A source from the investment firm did not deny suggestions that they valued Leeds between €60m & €80m and confirmed that there have been talks.
“There are real discussions but it’s advancing slowly,” said the QSI source. “But it could all accelerate tomorrow...”
