New Renfrewshire Council chief executive post with £150k salary advertised ahead of Sanda Black's retirement

A chief executive post with a bumper salary of more than £150,000 has been advertised by Renfrewshire Council ahead of Sandra Black's retirement.

Ms Black announced she would be stepping down as top dog at the end of 2021 after 23 years with the local authority.

Now bosses are on the hunt for a new "exceptional" leader who will play a key role in driving Renfrewshire's recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and completing delivery of the council's Glasgow City Region City Deal investment.

In an online advent, the job description says: "Passion. Energy. Commitment. Renfrewshire has it. Now we need you.

"As Renfrewshire Council's new chief executive, you will join an ambitious council at a pivotal time in our extensive transformation programme.

"You will play a key role in driving Renfrewshire's economic, social, and green recovery and completing delivery of our multi-million-pound Glasgow City Region City Deal investment, ensuring benefits are realised for everyone who lives, works, and learns here.

"We're looking for an exceptional leader who is passionate about public service, place-shaping, partnership, and people.

"You will bring leadership, energy and vision and a proven track record of delivery, combined with excellent stakeholder management, strategic partnership capability, and an unfaltering commitment to getting it right for all our communities."

The chief executive will head-up a workforce of more than 8,000 employees and provide professional advice and strategic direction to the council.

Ms Black - who has been in public service for almost 40 years - began working at Renfrewshire House in 1998 in the finance service before being appointed director of the department in 2005.

She held that post until 2014 when she was promoted to chief executive, where she was responsible for the organisation's role in Paisley's bid to become UK City of Culture and the delivery of City Deal investment.

Ms Black has also played a key role in the establishment of Renfrewshire's Alcohol and Drugs Commission, working to help improve the lives of people and families who have been affected by drink and drugs.
