New Remembrance Sunday rules included in latest lockdown changes

New rules for Remembrance Sunday have been included in the latest changes to lockdown legislation.

Each year around November 11 the nation stops to remember those who have fought ad fallen in war.

There were fears the current coronavirus legislation - which bans people meeting in groups of more than six and in some cases bans any household mixing - could disrupt this year's services.

But the new legislation states that gatherings to commemorate Remembrance Sunday are on a list of general exceptions in relation to gatherings for the “very high” tier.

It has set out who will be allowed to go.

The regulations say that those attending the Remembrance Sunday gathering should be limited to people there as part of their work, those providing voluntary services in connection with the event, members of the armed forces, veterans of the armed forces or their representatives or carers, and spectators who participate in the gathering alone or as a member of a qualifying group.
