New red travel list in full following latest travel announcement as two countries added

The government has issued its latest red travel list update - with two more countries added.

The latest update, announced on Thursday evening, has seen Thailand and Montenegro put on the list.

None have been removed.

The government said: "Thailand and Montenegro will be added to the red list from 4am on Monday 30 August, reflecting the increased case rates in these countries and the higher risk that travel from these countries poses to UK public health.

"The high rates combined with lower levels of published genomic surveillance in Thailand and Montenegro than other countries, mean that an outbreak of a new variant or existing variants of concern (VOC) or variants under investigation (VUI) cannot be easily identified before it is imported and seeded across the UK."

There are very strict rules in place around travel to the UK from a country now the red list.

People are only allowed to return to the UK if they are a British or Irish national, or have residence rights in the UK.

Furthermore, you must take a Covid-19 test three days before returning to England, complete a passenger locator form, and book a quarantine hotel package (including two Covid-19 tests).

Quarantine hotel packages can cost anywhere up to £2,285 for a single adult and between £650 to £1,430 for a second adult in a shared room.

The Department for Transport recently increased the prices of quarantine hotel packages to reflect the increased cost of needing to quarantine, such as transport to the hotel, security, welfare services, and two PCR tests which must be taken day two and eight of the stay.

Failure to provide accurate details of the countries you've visited 10 days before arriving in the UK could lead to a £10,000 fine and imprisonment, according to the Department for Transport - breaking quarantine rules can also result in a £10,000 fine.

According to the government, countries on the red list present a high public health risk to the UK from known variants of concern or high-risk variants under investigation - or because they have a very high prevalence of Covid-19.
