New recruit Fabian Delph can help instill a winning mentality into Everton's players

I thought Fabian Delph was absolutely fantastic on Sunday and was a deserving Man of the Match.

I've mentioned it in my column a few times over the past year about how we seem to be lacking leaders on the pitch.

But for me Delph has already showed what a natural born leader he is.

He's come in from Manchester City and arrives with a winning mentality.

You've clearly got to be good to play for Manchester City and have something about you to play under Pep Guardiola, and on Sunday we saw for ourselves the quality he posses.

But I'm hoping that as well as his quality on the pitch, he can also hopefully bring that winning mentality he has discovered at City to the Blues, and our lads can pick up from his knowledge and know-how.

At £8million he could prove to be an absolute steal.

Time for VAR to be reviewed

I spoke about it last week, but once again VAR was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the weekend.

When the technology was brought in it felt as though it would put an end to any debates surrounding refereeing decisions, but I honestly think it has made it worse.

For me the technology needs reviewing as soon as possible, we are talking about decisions that could cost a team a place in the Premier League, or prevent them from qualifying for Europe.

So far Everton have been lucky that they haven't been on the wrong end of any of the calls made, but if you look at one of my other old clubs, Manchester City, then they have been on the wrong end of a number of poor calls made by VAR already this season.

The whole process needs reviewing as soon as possible and the right calls need to start being made.
