New recording studio hopes to find the latest local talent in Lanarkshire music scene

A new recording studio set up in Lanarkshire is hoping to discover some of the finest young bands and musicians in the local area.

'Sound and Fury Records' was launched by Blantyre band The Naked Feedback 's Jack Oliver, who aims to make creating music more affordable for youngsters and local acts starting out.

The musician has turned his home's detached garage into a welcoming studio ready to turn artists' songs into reality.

Jack says it's time he put his expertise from his degree in recording bands and audio production into good use which will surely help out a lot of aspiring talent in the community.

He told Lanarkshire Live : "It's something I've wanted to do for a long time, but it was the lockdown that really started it all off.

"I have a degree in recording bands and audio production so I thought why not just set up a studio right next to where I live and use all that expertise to start recording local acts because it's always been a passion.

"It's something I've always loved doing and I just wanted to bring something local as most studios are miles away in Glasgow or Edinburgh.

"If we can do something in South Lanarkshire that's affordable, it will be good for the area."

From his own experience in trying to make records with bands over the years, Jack says common barriers are the expensive costs of using a recording studio; as well as the distance people have to travel to find a professional set up.

And in many cases, this is what causes talented musicians to give up on their dream.

'Sound and Fury Records' will also operate as a record label, and is looking for bands and musicians of all genres and ages to come and record one-to-one with Jack to create release ready songs.

The label can offer recording, mixing and even help with release strategies, live gigs and marketing.

The spacious studio at Blantyre Park Farm holds all of Jack's personal equipment, and he is ready to help new artists build their tracks.

The semi-rural setting helps add to the peaceful recording process and the artists' metal health.

Jack explained: "The plan so far is to get young bands, people that are starting their first bands that want to take music on or go further with it.

"I remember being 17 or 18 and being put off by how much money studios were asking for, so I want to make something that won't put people off music.

"If we can keep it local and get some first time bands in, then we can maybe kickstart their music career and life.

"In Glasgow you can pay anything from £200-400 per day to record and most of the time you don't even get one song done. For someone young that is a lot of money.

"So what I'm doing for local bands is charging £100 per day so it's really affordable in comparison to everywhere else.

"It's all my own stuff I've built up over the years and it's to make it affordable for young acts.

"It's a home studio but a bit more private and welcoming.

"Music is an outlet for people. Nobody knows what's happening in people's lives and I just want to make this as inclusive and as friendly as possible.

"It's somewhere peaceful and tranquil for people to come, record, and let go."
