New Real Betis manager drops hint about Giovani Lo Celso's future amid talk of Spurs transfer

Real Betis' new manager Rubi has been speaking about the future of Giovani Lo Celso.

The Argentine midfielder is a summer transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur as Mauricio Pochettino aims to bolster his squad in the hope of mounting a Premier League title challenge next season.

They've even made an offer for the 23-year-old.

As reported by our sister site MEN Sport, the Lilywhites launched a €60million (£52.8m) bid for Lo Celso but that offer was rejected by La Liga outfit.

Although, Mundo Deportivo have since disputed those claims by revealing that while Spurs did make a bid for Lo Celso it did not exceed 40 million euros (£35m) - which is way short of Betis' €100m (£89m) asking price.

Lo Celso's future is obviously a hot topic at the Benito Villamarin Stadium and Rubi was asked about the situation at his unveiling on Wednesday afternoon and it would appear he's resigned to losing the midfielder.

"You always want to have the best players at your command and Lo Celso is, " Rubi told reporters. "I don't have to talk about a player who, without being a striker, has scored 16 goals in his first season here.

"But I do say one thing.

"I have peace of mind that, if he has to leave, hopefully not, that money will be invested in improving the squad."

In an recent interview with Radio La Red, Lo Celso has confirmed there had been no progress in regards to a summer move to north London as he prepares for Copa America action.

"There's nothing new about Tottenham," he confirmed."I'm 100% focused on what the national team is.

"We know how strong the English league is, but I'm not focused on that."
