New Rangers pitch incoming as Ibrox surface set for upgrade ahead of Champions League push

Rangers are poised to have a new pitch installed for next season after their final day clash with Aberdeen on Saturday.

Industry leaders SIS tweeted to say Ibrox was next on their list after installing a brand new playing surface in Georgia's Batumi Stadium.

Rangers already have an SIS pitch in place which is currently a semi-hybrid - unlike the full hybrid surfaces at Tynecastle and Celtic Park.

SIS' George Mullan posted: "Full pitch construction completed at the Batumi Stadium in Georgia. Next up Ibrox Stadium in Glasgow."

An upgrade had been mooted by sporting director Ross Wilson and the imminent arrival of new playing surface will be welcomed by Steven Gerrard who loves his side to play a slick, passing-based style.

The current surface has held up well this season and looked in excellent condition during the 4-1 romp over rivals Celtic 10 days' ago.

A new surface would be just part of a raft of improvements at Ibrox that have been laid out with fans expected to return in numbers next season.
