New Queanbeyan cemetery proposed

With an estimated two to three years' capacity remaining on the current Queanbeyan Lawn Cemetery on Lanyon Drive, moves are afoot to build another cemetery for the growing city.

Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is seeking public comment on its planning proposal for a memorial park and cemetery on land at the intersection of Old Cooma Road and Burra Road near the township of Googong.

A council spokesman said the Queanbeyan Lawn Cemetery had capacity for only another two to three years.

The council will be holding a public meeting about the issue on September 15 at 6.30pm via Zoom due to COVID-19 restrictions.
