MOHALI: A day after being elected unopposed as the president of the Punjab Cricket Association, former cricketer and actor Gulzarinder Singh Chahal highlighted his team's priorities, keeping the completion of the Mullanpur Stadium on top of the list.
Chahal, 39, is the youngest PCA president till date, and has replaced noted industrialist and Padma Shri awardee Rajinder Gupta, who stepped down from his post last month after completing his tenure.
The new team of PCA office-bearers elected at the PCA's annual general meeting held at the IS Bindra Stadium here, includes vice-president Gagan Khanna, secretary Dilsher Khanna, joint secretary Surjit Rai and treasurer Rakesh Walia.
Besides, Sandeep Singh (Hoshiarpur), Gauravdeep Singh Dhaliwal (Ropar), Binwant Singh Sehgal (Gurdaspur), Sahebjeet Sehmby (Kapurthala), Rishi Pahwa (Ludhiana), Arvind Abrol, Akash Rathour (Jalandhar), Daksh Prem Azad (Fatehgarh Sahib) and Vikram Sidhu (Jalandhar) were picked as members of the Apex Council.
Chahal, who hails from Patiala, was a member of the Reetinder Singh Sodhi -led Under-15 World Cup winning team that defeated Pakistan at Lord's in 1996. He also had a week-long stint as treasurer of the Punjab Congress unit, last year.
Soon after taking charge, Gulzar listed his team's priorities, and ensured a transparent administration with "no room for boardroom politics."
He also assured that the new PCA stadium in Mullanpur will be completed during their tenure.
