New protected cycle lane opens on Sean Moore Road

A new protected cycle lane has opened up on Sean Moore Road providing a much safer experience for cyclists of all ages and experiences.

The new cycle lane will be connected to Pigeon Road will be completed shortly, according to Dublin City Council.

This is the latest segregated cycle lane that has been installed in Dublin City after sections of both the north and south quays were relaid to include segregated bike lanes.

Increasing the number of people using active travel and public transport is seen as a key way of reducing Dublin's greenhouse gas emissions.

This is just one of a number of initiatives to increase cycling participation.

Yesterday, Dublin Port launched a €400 million project that will include three new public parks, a bridge over the Liffey and 5 km of cycling and pedestrian routes.

Additional bike parking has also been installed in multiple car parks across Dublin city.

300 spaces were made available in Drury Street which have since been added to in car parks in Jervis Street and Cathal Brugha Street.

Dublin City Council has added 5,956 bike spaces from since 2013, with plans to add another 2000 in the next couple of years.
