New proposals have been put forward to build a series of homes in Allanton

A new proposal has been put forward to build a series of homes in Allanton.

The plans which would be for 67 properties in Mill Road are set to be submitted to North Lanarkshire Council planners.

The development would be split with 24 social and affordable homes being constructed along with a further 43 for private sale.

The man behind the plans is former Fortissat councillor Tommy Cochrane who quit his role with the local authority earlier this year.

Tommy, who now runs his own TMC planning consultancy, said: “The proposal is to use land that is on the site of an old sewerage works. This has not been in use for a few decades and is now in an unkempt and overgrown state. The entrance to this old works is still in existence off of Mill Road.

“For years the community of Allanton has only had small developments. This will bring further benefits.

“We will be building housing heated by geothermal energy, which will bring new homes without damage to the environment.

“The location of this site makes it accessible to all local bus services and within walking distance of Hartwood Rail way Station.”

Initial plans for the site were for 60 houses but this has since been upgraded to 67 homes in total.

The planners are currently in talks with the Coal Authority with regards to using the heat from Kingshill Mine that is located approximately 350m below this site, to heat the properties.
