A new positive COVID case has been detected on the Gold Coast, putting people who visited one of the city’s largest shopping centres during last week's Black Friday Sales on high alert.

People who were at Robina Town Centre on November 26 were contacted by Queensland Health on Wednesday afternoon and notified they could be casual contacts of a case that visited the shopping centre last Friday.

All of Robina Town Centre, from 1:30pm to 2:45pm on Friday, November 26, was deemed a low-risk contact site this afternoon.

The centre's Target, Rebel Sport and JB HiFi stores have been listed as casual contact sites between 1:30pm and 2:30pm on the same day.

Queensland Health says: "An investigation is underway to determine the source of infection."

It is unknown which variant of coronavirus the positive case has.

"The case has visited the Robina Town Centre during the Black Friday shopping sales, so we would urge anyone who has visited the location or has symptoms, no matter how mild, to come forward and get tested," a Queensland Health spokesperson said.

Further information is expected about the case to be released on Thursday.

There were long lines at testing centres near the shopping centre, including Mudgeeraba, on Wednesday afternoon.
