New pop-up cycle lane between Saltmarket and Clyde Arc takes shape

A new pop-up cycle lane running from the Saltmarket to the Clyde Arc is taking shape to encourage social distancing and ease pressure along the River Clyde walkway.

Staff from Glasgow City Council have been busy transforming one of the two car lanes on Clyde Street and the Broomielaw into the designated 1.5 mile long cycle lane.

Glasgow City Council tweeted: "Work to create extra space for walkers, wheelers and cyclists by the Clyde is underway.

"The new lane will run from Saltmarket to Clyde Arc to ease pressure along the Clyde Walkway. Will help smother spread of coronavirus during active travel & exercise."

It marks the second measure introduced by the Council to encourage social distancing following the closure of Kelvin Way to traffic the weekend before last.

A move that has been so successful that people are already calling for the street that runs through Kelvingrove Park to be closed permanently to vehicles.
