New PlayStation App goes live ahead of PS5 launch with all-new design and voice chat

After months of anticipation, the PlayStation 5 will finally go on sale in a matter of weeks.

In the build-up to the launch, Sony has revealed a new PlayStation App with an all-new design.

Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Planning & Management, said: “The PS App introduces fresh features such as voice chat, native PS Store integration, and a smoother experience delivered in an all-new design.”

The app has an updated user interface, which allows you to quickly see what your friends are playing and access details about your recently played games.

The PS Messages app feature is also now integrated in the PS App.

One of the most exciting new features is Voice Chat, as well as Party Groups (PlayStation)

Mr Nishino explained: “For a unified experience, the PS Messages app feature will now be integrated in the updated PS App so you can seamlessly message your friends all in one place. As part of this integration, PS Messages will no longer be available as a standalone app.

“Your existing messages and threads in PS Messages will be carried over to the updated PS App.”

One of the most exciting new features is Voice Chat, as well as Party Groups. This means you can voice chat with up to 15 other friends through your smartphone!

The PlayStation Store has also been natively integrated into the app (PlayStation)

The PlayStation Store has also been natively integrated into the app.

Mr Nishino said: “The new native PS Store experience enables fast and smooth shopping and browsing, with the ability to remotely download games and add-ons directly to your PS4 and PS5.”

When the PlayStation 5 does launch net month, users will be able to remotely launch games, manage storage on their console and quickly sign in to PS5 via the app.
