A new playpark in Ravenscraig will be open to the public tomorrow.
The £3.7m park has been built by North Lanarkshire Council as part of its plans to regenerate the former steelworks site and will welcome families from Sunday.
It will include a play area, sensory garden, visitor hub with a disabled toilet and a café, events area, a network of walking and cycling routes, a multi sports pitch and an outdoor gym.
A feature path will be created along the line of the historic steel strip mill, and seating areas will be located throughout the park.
Ravenscraig councillor Kenneth Duffy has been in regular dialogue with council officers on the plans which will see a phased opening with the play area, picnic and general grass area sand pathways open to the public.
The new pitch and some meadow areas will remain fenced until August until they’ve had more chance to grow and establish.

Councillor Duffy told Lanarkshire Live : “I’ve had a number of excited families contacting me for months asking for an opening date for the park.
“Officers have been working tirelessly on getting the park up and running despite numerous issues to contend with that come with a development of this size.
“However, I’m delighted that the park will now be opened for families across our communities to enjoy.
“This is just a very small part of this council’s ambitious plans for Ravenscraig and I’m thrilled that it’s going to be realised in time for families to enjoy during the summer months.”
The play area will have climbing walls, swings, trampolines, bouncing discs, a climbing tower, zip slide, talk tubes, balance beams and posts, incorporating accessible facilities for children and young people with mobility issues.
