New play area to open in Wollaton and families are invited for free family fun day

A new children's play area will open in Wollaton on Monday April 15 between 2 and 4pm.

A family fun day with face painting, a bouncy castle, arts and crafts, drumming workshops and street games will all take place at the site in Torvill Drive Park.

Nottingham’s Parks and Open Spaces team said the event is free and everybody is invited.

The improvements include swings, climbing units, slides, a roundabout, a seesaw, and a balance trail which will sit on a new rubberised safety surface.

The play area has been funded with a £50,000 grant from WREN, a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community projects.

At the same time £50,000 was also funded by Nottingham City Council through Section 106 money received through planning applications and area capital.

The existing play area on Torvill Drive was old and tired, according to the council.

There was a public consultation in summer 2018 on what the residents would like to see and they were also involved in making the final decision on the park they most wanted, choosing from a final three designs.

James Dymond, Parks and Open Spaces development manager at Nottingham City Council, said: “We are very pleased to be able to invite the public to visit another rejuvenated play area space and one that the residents have been so key in shaping.

"I hope everybody will come down on Monday to help us celebrate and to enjoy the fun activities on offer with our Park Rangers, as well as the great new equipment we have been able to install.

"I’d also like to thank WREN for their continued support, without which we could not create such amazing opportunities for our parks and citizens.”
