New plant-based café Rabbit Food opens in Bristol

It's no secret Bristol is one of the best places in the world to live for vegans.

The city is a haven for people who choose to lead a plant-based lifestyle with plenty of cafés and restaurants serving up top notch grub - and the new arrivals keep on coming.

The latest to open its doors is Rabbit Food - a sleek and stylish Scandi-inspired café with a brief yet delicious plant-based menu, specialising in hearty salad bowls or 'rabbit bowls' which change on a weekly basis.

While all the food is cooked on-site, coffee is supplied by Redemption Roasters, a social enterprise which trains young offenders how to roast coffee at Aylesbury Prison.

Rabbit Food has opened in the place of The Milk Bar in the ever-changing Old Market - an area which appealed to owner Ellie Baldwin.

"We wanted to make sure we found the right place and this is definitely it," said the 21-year-old, who recently completed a degree in pyschology.

"We love Old Market and there's some really cool businesses here including Glitch, Gossip Nail Bar, 25a, West Street Kitchen and more.

"It's definitely getting busier here and we think it's pretty underrated. Some people in Bristol don't know where it is and others don't realise what's here.

"We actually moved to Old Market from Easton earlier this year so we have a daily commute of around one minute which is nice."

Ellie is running the business alongside her partner Katie. Both have backgrounds working in the food industry and had aspirations of running their own café together.

Aside from the hearty rabbit bowls, which come with slaw and various toppings (£6), the lunch menu includes the no bacon BLT (£4.50), open sandwiches and wraps (£5) and seasonal soup (£3.50).

Breakfast options include sourdough toast from the Assembly Bakery (£3.50), porridge (£3) and granola bowls (£4).

Rabbit Food can be found at 46 Old Market Street. For more information, visit its Facebook page.
