A builder’s merchants could be the latest business to be created on Derby’s Pride Park if newly submitted plans get the go-ahead.
In October last year, Monte Blackburn Ltd, a development company set up by the owners of Euro Garages, got the green light from Derby City Council to create a new petrol filling station and drive-thru coffee shop on vacant land, off Pride Parkway.
The facilities will be built on part of a site formerly occupied by two large gas holders, opposite Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium and Derby Arena.
The gas holders had stood at the site for many years but in 2015 permission was granted for them to be demolished.
The latest application involves the remaining section of land. According to the plans, the business will supply to national builders, as well as small enterprises and the public.

In planning documents submitted to the city council by PWA Planning, on behalf of Monte Blackburn Ltd, it said: “Consent is sought for the erection of a builder’s merchant’s with associated storage, distribution, trade counter, offices and ancillary retail sales.
“The proposal involves the erection of a purpose-built building on the southern portion of the site, with a gross external footprint of 1,459 sq metres.
“The majority of the internal floorspace will be geared towards the storage and loading of goods, served by two large loading doors.
“Additional floorspace is provided for staff and other ancillary facilities including offices, a trade counter and space for limited retail sales.”
The new petrol filling station and drive-thru is estimated to create more than 40 jobs. If given the go-ahead, the builder’s merchant site would bring another 15 full-time roles.
The plans state: “In terms of economic benefits, the proposal would make a positive contribution to the local economy during the construction phase but also through local spending power once the development is occupied by an end-user.
“The social aspect of sustainability is met as the proposal will result in the creation of a high-quality environment, with uses complimentary to meet demands within the local area.”
