Some of Sefton’s road networks could soon undergo a huge overhaul.
The council says it wants to make it easier to move around Switch Island and surrounding areas.
Tens of thousands of drivers rely on the busy junction every day to get to work, for deliveries or to visit friends and family.
Sefton’s “Maritime Corridor” is the area which stretches from Switch Island to Netherton Way, and links Atlantic Park to the wider region and the Port of Liverpool.
Plans involve improving five key junctions on Ormskirk Road (A59), Dunnings Bridge Road (A5036) and Netherton Way (A5038) as well as the local road network.
The council says it would also like to have a separate path for cycling and walking for the whole stretch of Dunnings Bridge Road, from Switch Island to Netherton Way.
Bailey Drive, Orrell Lane and Netherton Way
Plans for this junction include widening Bailey Drive to make a four-lane approach where it meets Park Lane.
There could also be a pedestrian crossing point on Bailey Drive to enable safe crossing.
Bridle Road, Vesty Road and Atlantic Park Drive
The council wants to narrow Bridle Road to make it two lanes on approach.

New plans would also see a right turn made possible from Atlantic Drive onto Bridle Road, to make it easier for people to get to the businesses at Atlantic Park.
Atlantic Park Drive from Dunnings Bridge Road
Plans here would see the road made wider to allow cars to turn left into Atlantic Park.
To make the road wider, a bus stop would have to be removed, though the council says there is another one 180 metres away.
Council documents say it will also become easier to walk and cycle, with plans to change the path and cycleway along the road.
Ormskirk Road and Park Lane
Traffic light signal timings could change here to stop queues of traffic building up.
Other ideas include closing the railway underpass on Heysham Road to vehicles, with use for cyclists only, and a link to the cycle route on Park Lane.
The Martime Corridor Improvements scheme is at a very early stage, and the council wants people who live near, or use these roads, to have their say.
Sefton Council has not yet secured funding for this scheme, though it hopes to in the future.
