New plan to end 2019/20 season and when Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham could return to action

The Premier League are planning to use a number of approved stadiums to host top flight games behind closed doors as soon as they receive government backing to restart the football season, claim the Times.

The plan, dubbed ‘Project Restart’ will see a number of elite sports collaborate to thrash out a plan with government officials to get sport back on television screens as soon as possible.

The reports claims that a host of sports will look to make use of only a small handful of stadiums over the summer, with the Premier League top of the priorities list, to stage games behind closed doors.

That will allow the cross-sport project to squeeze the very maximum from a finite number of medical staff, police and other essential workers required to stage an top-level sporting event.

Who's played the most Premier League minutes?

The Premier League revealed their plan to shareholders last week, say the Times, with June 8 labelled as the ideal return date.

That starting date would see the campaign completed on July 27, allowing until late August to start the new season.

Football in Germany is said to be making a similar return but that too awaits government approval.

The DFL (Germany’s equivalent to the FA) have issued clubs with information on how to keep players safe in training.

The guidelines, sent to all club doctors, suggests that players bring pack lunches to training and that they keep more than two metres away from each other wherever possible.

And it is understood that the Premier League have issued similar advice, urging players to arrive at training already in their kit to avoid any unnecessary contact.

A mid-June restart for the Premier League could require players to return to training in early May to get back to match fitness as soon as possible.
