A former tanning salon in Cambuslang could become a pizza takeaway under new proposals.
However, locals have stressed their concerns over the move, believing there are too many takeaways in the area already.
Oven Feast Limited, who operate a number of food shops and food stands in Scotland, have applied to South Lanarkshire regarding opening up on 214 Main Street, with a decision due by May.
The Council received 13 complaints about the proposal by last Friday.
John Bachtler, chair of Cambuslang Community Council, said it would be better for the area if there was a more diverse range of shops.
He said: “No-one wants to see vacant units on the Main Street, so it’s good there is interest in opening a new business. However, we are seriously concerned about the lack of diversity of retailing in Cambuslang.
“Every survey we have done says local people want a wider mix of shops, especially shops that serve the daytime economy. Many businesses say the same. Our new BankHub is intended to improve access to cash and encourage people to spend their cash locally. For that to happen, though, we need a diverse mix of businesses.
“Hopefully, the forthcoming makeover of the Main Street will make start on creating a town centre more attractive to different types of businesses.”
Other takeaways in the area are said to be concerned about a competitor joining an already crowded market.
