Take a look at what is in store for Swansea's nightlife capital after a £3m investment transforms the way we know it.
Concept pictures and illustrations reveal how Wind Street will look after the Swansea Council-led revamp is complete. It is the authority's vision that rather than just an evening attraction, Wind Street will become an all-day destination with more opportunities for family fun, eating and meeting for coffee.
Work is currently taking place to make that vision a reality, and construction vehicles can now be spotted there. More emphasis has been put on pedestrian priority to support businesses during the day and at night-time, with footway and carriageway improvements.
A Swansea Council spokesman said: “Main construction work has started on Wind Street and the project is looking to complete before the end of this year.
“At present, crews are there improving and extending some of the paved areas, lifting and re-laying existing sandstone flags, protecting trees and preparing to install seating and new greenery.
“We intend to make Wind Street more attractive to businesses who’d like to offer hospitality services outside and to customers who’d like to use those services. Traffic is limited to business vehicles only every day from 7-11am.
“Our work started there before Christmas when we undertook a tree management programme which retained the vast majority of trees and trimmed them carefully to allow more light to reach pedestrians and to offer better views of the street’s Conservation Area architecture. We installed new colour-changing lighting in the trees.”

There will be new public lighting, new pea lighting in trees, new street furniture and more green infrastructure, along with more seated areas to create a more family-friendly environment.
Traffic will be restricted to a limited number of hours every day, for loading only, and it will remain one-way to traffic. The street will also have a level area that is disability and pedestrian-friendly.
The council says the "ultimate aim is a welcoming, safe and enjoyable family destination for visitors and businesses while also recognising the needs and wishes of residents of all abilities".
