New pictures of Leonard Farrar released in hunt to find killer who stabbed pensioner to death 18 years ago

Detectives have joined forces with a murder victim's family to launch a fresh appeal for information 18 years after the brutal murder of a Leeds pensioner.

Leonard Farrar was found stabbed to death at his home in Beeston, Leeds, on May 4, 2002.

The 71-year-old retired Merchant Navy captain's killer has never been found and today - on the day he would have turned 90 - West Yorkshire Police have released a new appeal for information.

In a tweet, the force said: "Leonard Farrar would have been 90 today. But he was brutally murdered at his house in Beeston in 2002.

"No one has ever been charged with his murder. Leonard's family have today released photos of him in his younger years in the hope people come forward to police with information."

Mr Farrar was stabbed multiple times in his home in Cardinal Road and his family said they want people to remember the "awful fate" he endured.

In a statement, his family said: "Leonard was taken from us in terrible circumstances and we want people to remember him and the awful fate he suffered.

"His murderer is still out there."

Detective Chief Inspector Vanessa Rolfe added: "If you have any information then get in contact so we can get justice for Leonard's family. It's the least they deserve."

Anyone with information about Mr Farrar's murder should call West Yorkshire Police on 01924 821543 and leave a voicemail message.
