New pictures emerge on set of Matt Damon's new film in Meath as filming of The Last Duel resumes

This is the scenic part of the Irish countryside that has been transformed into 14th century France for a medieval epic starring Matt Damon.

The area at Bective Bridge in Co Meath was a hive of excitement yesterday as production began on Ridley scott’s The Last Duel.

Some locals stood on nearby roads and even used binoculars to try and get a glimpse of Damon and co-star Ben Affleck.

The area was previously used to film 1995 movie Braveheart. It’s definitely the reel deal.

Last week the Hollywood blockbuster resumed filming in Ireland at Ardmore Studios in preparation for the film's 2021 release date.

Earlier snaps captured on set show A-list stars Jodie Comer and Matt Damon clad in Middle Age ensembles as they transformed into their characters for the movie, directed by Ridley Scott and Ben Afleck.

The movie has been adapted from Eric Jager's book of the same name and it tells the true story of Jean de Carrouges, played by Matt, a 14th century knight who embarks on a fight to the death with former friend Jacques Le Gris , portrayed by Adam, after accusing him of raping his wife, Marguerite de Carrouges, Jodie's character.

Scenes for the movie are expected to be shot for between six and eight weeks.

It is understood that set is kitted out with testing centres and medics to ensure the cast and crew are as safe as possible from Covid-19.

The Last Duel was scheduled to be released in December 2020 but it has now been pushed back to October 15, 2021.

Damon became an unexpected Irish lockdown hero after the coronavirus restriction came into effect almost immediately after his arrival in late March.

Damon and his family spent months living in south Dublin before flying back to the US in May vowing he'd "absolutely" be back, and that he did.
