New photos unveil Dublin star Aidan Turner in new role as Leonardo da Vinci

New photos have been unveiled showing Poldark hunk Aidan Turner in his new role as Leonardo da Vinci.

The 36-year-old Dubliner stars as the genius artist and inventor in a new TV series that will hit our screens next year, Leonardo.

Turner, who made his name in The Clinic before moving on to Being Human and The Hobbit, became a major star as the lead character in Poldark which ran from 2015 to 2019.

Leonardo will look into the mystery of one of the most fascinating and famous people in history, a man whose work is known all over the world but whose character remains a tantalizing secret.

Turner stars alongside Giancarlo Giannini (Family Novel, Catch-22), who plays Leonardo’s master, Andrea del Verrocchio, while Matilda De Angelis (The Undoing) plays Caterina da Cremona, da Vinci’s dearest friend and mysterious muse.

Freddie Highmore (The Good Doctor, Bates Motel) plays Stefano Giraldi, a young detective of the Podestà in charge of solving the central mystery.

The series is being made by The Man in the High Castle creator Frank Spotnitz.

Turner is seen here examining an Italian masterpiece in this first look from the upcoming TV drama.

Born the illegitimate son of a notary in the rural town of Vinci in Tuscany, da Vinci’s lonely childhood leaves him with a relentless drive to understand everything.

All of his work, whether it was art, science, painting, engineering, anatomy or poetry, displayed a deep humanity that was determined to unfold the mystery of the world around us.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the series follows Da Vinci as he is driven by a profound need to search and discover.

The series “aims to explore an alternative to the usual stereotypes about his personality, instead delving into the mystery of his extraordinary character.”
