Prince Louis grins in new photo released to celebrate royal's eighth birthday

The Prince and Princess of Wales have celebrated Prince Louis’s eighth birthday by sharing a sweet new photo of the youngster.

A grinning Louis is shown leaning with his arms folded against a metal barrier, with the sea as the backdrop on a family holiday to Cornwall.

William and Kate’s youngest, who is known for his cheeky nature, is wearing a blue textured quarter-zip style jumper.

The post on Kensington Palace’s social media read “Happy birthday, Louis! 8 today!” followed by a red balloon emoji.

The picture was taken earlier this month by photographer Matt Porteous, to whom the Waleses often turn to mark family occasions.

Some of Porteous’ previous royal commissions include pictures from Louis' christening, from Prince George’s third and fifth birthdays, and the Wales' family Christmas card for 2022.

Prince Louis is the third child of the Prince and Princess of Wales after Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 10, and is fourth in the line of succession to the throne.

He is known for his cheeky antics, with a number of funny moments catching the attention of fans around the world and making made him a firm favourite.

During the VE day celebrations last year, the young Prince was spotted turning to his father and sternly brushing down his shoulder, and was also seen copying his older brother George, flicking his hair and mimicking his gestures.

And at the Trooping the Colour ceremony in June, Louis was met with cheers as his toothless grin and passionate waving from the balcony stole the show, with his older brother having to gently stop him at one stage.

The King and Queen were spotted smiling as they watched Louis’ antics, with Charles appearing to be pointing and laughing alongside his grandson.
