A Blackburn-based bakery giant has collaborated with M&S to launch a new range of products including a sponge roll inspired by the famous Percy Pig sweets.
BBF Limited said the Percy Pig sponge roll launched in M&S stores nationally on November 3, and is among a new range of bakes now on sale in time for Christmas.
It follows on from the recent success of the Percy Pig 'Percymas Pies' and Jonathan Lill, CEO of BBF, said: “It’s always a pleasure working alongside M&S, especially at this time of year when consumers are increasingly looking for indulgent treats to celebrate Christmas.
“The Percy Pig brand is loved by the nation and is renowned for being delicious, so to integrate this same great taste into another format for consumers to enjoy has been fantastic.”
BBF Limited and M&S have worked together for several years, providing a range of ambient cakes for the prominent retailer.
From its Blackburn HQ and with bakeries all across the UK, BBF Ltd develops and manufactures ambient cake products across several different categories including celebration cakes and fruit pies. The baker produces more than 600m products a year.
The Percy Pig sponge roll is a pink sponge filled with pink Percy Pig-flavour buttercream and jelly pieces, rolled in pink raspberry flavour sugar.
M&S product developer, Natalie Tate, said: “This is a unique take on a classic sponge roll, with pink fluffy sponge, Percy Pig flavour buttercream and chewy fruit jelly pieces with pink edible sugar sprinkled on top for that added bit of M&S magic.
"It is as mouth-watering to eat as it comes, and also makes a great base layer for a show-stopping trifle or pudding.”
Mr Lill added: “The new cakes are now available at M&S stores nationally. We’re anticipating them to perform incredibly well, particularly over the festive season and beyond."
