New patient transport push from Earn Community Council

Earn Community Council wants to recruit volunteer drivers to help get residents to and from their new Perth GPs.

Following the closure of Bridge of Earn GP Surgery last month, 3500 residents living in the village have been forced to attend surgeries in and around Perth.

Now the community council wants to hire volunteer drivers to help get residents to and from their appointments in Perth.

A spokesperson for the community council said: “Following the recent closure of the GP surgery in Bridge of Earn this has brought to a head the issue of personalised or group transport limitations.

“Although Bridge of Earn is well served by three bus routes, none pass the GP surgeries in Perth.

“There are also patients needing personal transport to Ninewells Hospital or Perth Royal Infirmary.

“Residents in remoter places have very limited services.

“The Earn Community Council seeks to prime a community volunteer car driver service for the community by forming a management committee to make the necessary arrangements for a coordinator to form a group of volunteer drivers to operate across the area on terms to be determined by the management committee.”

Those interested in getting involved in this new scheme are asked to contact the community council’s chair on chairmanecc@gmail.com
