New Partnership Centre in West Lothian opens its doors

The new Whitburn Partnership Centre has opened, bringing a number of local services under one roof and has breathed new life into one of the town’s most prominent and historic buildings.

West Lothian Council has redeveloped the site at East Main Street to create a new Partnership Centre at the heart of Whitburn. The original Burgh Halls façade has been kept and restored and a new two-storey extension has been added to the retained East Mains Street building.

The new Partnership Centre follows the council’s model of creating multi-purpose facilities, bringing services together to benefit local communities whilst delivering financial efficiencies through the reduction of council buildings.

The services now available at Whitburn Partnership Centre include, the Ian Tennant Library, Whitburn Housing Office, Access 2 Employment, the Customer Information Service, Social Policy and Whitburn Community Museum.

The Partnership Centre also provides space for hire via two community rooms, separated by a sliding folding partition which can be opened up to form one large Community Hall.

Representatives from a number of community organisations joined West Lothian Council Officers to offer their thoughts and insights through every stage of the development.

Maxi Construction led on the construction for West Lothian Council.

West Lothian Council Depute Chief Executive, Graeme Struthers said: “The refurbishment and improvement works have ensured the building is multi-functional, modern and fit for purpose. The council has a strong track record of creating centres that deliver positive benefits for the communities in which they are based.

“Council budgets are under severe pressure and this will only continue over the next five years. The investment in the new Whitburn Partnership Centre is part of the council’s wider strategy to reduce the number of council properties and deliver local services under the one
roof.”
