MIAMI _ An agreement between Target and online grocery seller Shipt will allow same-day home delivery of numerous Target products such as groceries, home goods and electronics in Florida's major markets.
And it will add 3,000 jobs in Florida, the companies claim.
Shoppers in South Florida and Tampa can make Target runs by just waking up and turning on the phone starting Feb. 1. A week later, the service starts in Orlando, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Daytona Beach, Fort Myers, Gainesville, Gulf Shores, Naples, Sarasota, Space Coast, St. Augustine and the Treasure Coast.
Target plans to expand the service to most stores by the 2018 holiday shopping season and all major product categories by the end of 2019.
The announcement of the partnership says customers can request the groceries, electronics, etc., that they order to be delivered in an hour. Shipt is offering new members who sign up before Feb. 1 an annual membership for $49, instead of the standard $99 price.
"Same-day delivery was at the top of our list when we were thinking about ways to make shopping at Target even easier," Target CEO John Mulligan said.
Shipt says it is expanding the "paid shopper" force, responsible for putting the orders together, by 3,000.
