New parking charges in Wirral to come into force from next week

The cost of parking in Wirral is changing as the council looks to standardise prices across the borough.

From Monday the new prices will come into effect at all the council-operated public car parks and parking spaces.

Wirral Council also confirmed parking charges are still cashless meaning only card payments are taken, either contactless, via their app or over the telephone.

A spokesperson for Wirral Council said: "Standardised charges for parking in council-operated public car parks and parking spaces come into effect from next week.

"The changes mean that, from Monday, September 6, the same tariff will apply to all council-run car parks and on-street parking spaces right across the borough. Previously rates differed from location to location.

"The new charges can be summarised as £1 per hour for every hour up to four hours.

"Parking for more than four hours will be charged at a new all-day rate of £5.

"It is the first review of car parking charges in Wirral since 2017.

"Annual parking permits are available for traders at £600 per year and permits for use at Wirral’s country parks – Wirral, Arrowe, Eastham and Royden - are available for all users at £100 per annum.

"Payment for parking across Wirral is currently cashless.

"Motorists can pay for parking by using the Just Park app - www.wirral.gov.uk/parking-roads-and-travel/parking/where-can-i-park-wirral/wirral-parking-app-justpark - by telephone, following the instructions on the meter, or by card using contactless or PIN."

The standardisation of charges were agreed on earlier this year along with the decision to introduce new charges to coastal locations such as New Brighton and small centres such as Bebington.

These new charges are not yet in place but are due to be implemented in 2022 after being approved by councilors at the Decision Review Committee in August.
