New park sign is being removed already - after locals spotted a BIG mistake

A new sign for a park is already being removed - because it is spelt incorrectly.

The sign for Broomwood Park and recreation grounds in Aimson Road in Timperley is being replaced to correct the mistake.

The display board for the play area for children between three and 14 years old shows a misspelt version of Timperley - instead saying "Timperly".

Trafford Council 's maligned bin and park cleaning contractors Amey PLC is behind the blunder.

As part of the One Trafford partnership, the firm announced a swathe of new signs for the borough's parks; 34 signs were already installed by December 2019.

In total 299 new signs will be in place across 63 parks in the borough.

But any sense of celebration was cut short when one member of the public pointed out the issue.

Twitter user Shamrock TB said: "The Timperley one on Aimson Road is spelt wrongly!"

One Trafford replied: "Hi, we are aware of the typo and are going to get this changed."

The spokesperson for Amey PLC could not confirm how much replacing the sign was going to cost, or exactly where the money to reproduce the sign was going to come from.

But it is understood by the service that contracts similar to the one between Trafford Council and Amey PLC often have contingency money planned into the overall contract budget.

If the money were to come from any contingency funds, then the bill for the sign's replacement would be being paid by Trafford's council tax payers.

The Amey spokesperson said: "The sign is being removed and will be replaced as soon as possible - we expect within the next couple of weeks".

Sale West Play Area and Stamford Park in Altrincham are both set to get new climbing frames as part of upgrades to the borough's parks.

Footpaths in Longford Park are also due to be resurfaced by Amey and new play equipment is also set to be installed there.
