New ozeki Takakeisho had no trouble pushing out No. 1 maegashira and former ozeki Kotoshogiku to win for the second day in a row to start the Reiwa era and Summer Grand Sumo Tournament on Monday in Tokyo.

Yokozuna Kakuryu, the lone yokozuna in the tournament after the withdrawal of Hakuho, quickly fought off an attack by No. 1 maegashira Hakutofuji and shoved him out of the ring for his second win.

Ozeki Takayasu bounced back from his opening day loss, pushing out No. 2 maegashira Endo.

Ozeki Goeido twisted down komusubi Aoiyama for his fifth straight win and 21st in 24 career bouts between the two to improve to 2-0 in the tournament.

Sekiwake Tochinoshin, who is aiming to return to ozeki folloing his demotion after the previous tournament, earned his second win by easily forcing out No. 2 maegashira Daieisho. Tochinoshin needs at least 10 wins to get promoted again to ozeki.
