New owners urged to learn from Mike Ashley's biggest Newcastle United mistake

Newcastle United's new owners have been warned not to 'abuse' the club's loyal fanbase like the previous owner Mike Ashley did.

The Saudi backed consortium finally got the keys to St James' Park last week which kicked off massive celebrations on Tyneside, and one of the co-owners, Amanda Staveley, has spoken very well in subsequent media appearances.

Chronicle Live's John Gibson appeared on The Everything is Black and White Podca st to share his views on the deal, and while very excited for the future - had a warning for the new owners.

"Thanks very much," he said when asked what he'd say to the owners, "thanks for sticking around when it could have been easy to walk away because it was taking so long.

"Geordies are the most loyal fans in the world and you're very lucky to have us!

"You know that - but at no stage, abuse us because that it was Ashley did and you saw what happened.

"We deserve better than that.

"You've talked a good fight, we're thrilled that you're here but now fight the magnificent fight and we'll all be grateful."
