New Orleans, Dallas mayors make wager for Saints-Cowboys game

The New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys will feature prominently in Week 4 of the NFL, headlining the Sept. 29 slate of games with their Sunday night kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Naturally, the matchup between two of the NFC’s best squads — the 2-1 Saints, led by backup passer Teddy Bridgewater, and the 3-0 Cowboys, captained by young quarterback Dak Prescott — is drawing plenty of attention.

Two big fans in particular eyeing the game are also mayors of each city. Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson reached out to New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell to offer a wager based on the game’s outcome, and she was eager to accept his challenge. Johnson and Cantrell had an exchange on their official Twitter accounts outlining the deal:

Johnson has attempted to work out wagers with the mayors of each team opposing the Cowboys this year, but Cantrell and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez have been the only ones to take him up on it so far. After the Cowboys defeated the Dolphins on Sunday, Suarez shipped a key lime pie to Johnson, who suggested Cantrell pay attention to the packaging — he’s expecting a shipment of turtle soup, jambalaya and shrimp etouffee next week should the Cowboys beat the Saints.

But Cantrell isn’t worried. She’s putting her faith in Saints and their energized fan base to make the difference when the Cowboys visit New Orleans. She hasn’t said what she’ll be winning if the Saints are victorious, but we’d like to suggest some Texas brisket, burnt ends and beef ribs make the top of her list.
