New Order's Bernard Sumner rants about 'the f***ing Welsh' stopping him getting to his new boat

Manchester rocker Bernard Sumner has confessed 'lockdown’s doing my f***ing nut in' because he can't travel to his boat in Wales.

The Joy Division and New Order legend told The Times that he can't get to his brand new boat because 'the f***ing Welsh won't let me in'.

The Welsh Government's legislation around the coronavirus pandemic is stricter than in England and prohibits non-essential travel between both nations - something the 64-year-old singer admits he has found frustrating.

When asked as to how he was coping with lockdown, he told the newspaper: “I’ve got a brand new boat waiting for me in Wales and I can’t go to it because the f***ing Welsh won’t let me."

He added: “So yeah, lockdown’s doing my f***ing nut in.”

The Salford-raised singer-songwriter, 64, is a keen traveller and sailor but lockdown means these passions are on hold.

Discussing lockdown, the musician told the paper that he might have been better equipped to deal with it 40 years ago at the height of his fame.

“I guess back in those days we were all pretty isolated anyway because there was nowhere to go,” he said.

On Sunday, the M.E.N. reported how 20 people in two separate groups were turned back from Bala in Snowdonia national park and South Stack on Anglesey, both in North Wales, because of breaching lockdown rules in Wales.

In the UK government's daily briefing on Monday May 18, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab reminded people to be 'mindful' of rules in devolved countries.

The Foreign Secretary says the UK government has been very mindful of the need for anyone from England wanting to go to one of the other countries of the UK, like Wales, to have to follow rules there that might be different.

Mr Raab said people travelling from England to Wales had been warned not to make the trips.

He said the government had been "clear" and that people should be mindful of the rules other parts of the UK had put in place.

It came after the government changed the rules for England, saying people could drive as far as they want to exercise under lockdown.

Wales has asked people not to travel from England as it opted not to follow Boris Johnson’s relaxation of lockdown rules on travel.
