New Oracle Database Stays Online Even During Outages

Oracle has launched its Globally Distributed Exadata Database on Exascale Infrastructure. It is a new cloud service designed to support global applications that need high availability, fast performance, and compliance with data residency rules. Built for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the service allows businesses to automatically distribute, store, and synchronize data across multiple OCI regions worldwide.

According to the company, the main benefit of this service is that applications stay online even during regional outages, without complex infrastructure setups or costly downtime.

The new offering from Oracle is particularly targeted towards customers running modern, data-heavy workloads, including agentic AI, real-time analytics, and high-volume transaction processing. It uses serverless architecture, which means it can automatically scale up or down based on demand.

Furthermore, to ensure that there is near-zero data loss and uninterrupted service, even in the event of regional failures, the system combines Exascale’s elastic scalability with Raft-based replication. This makes it a perfect solution for e-commerce, payment systems, stock trading, and global AI applications.

What’s New and Why Does It Matter?

  • Mission-Critical Availability: The database is designed for 24/7 operations with built-in failover and high fault tolerance.
  • Data Residency Compliance: Companies can meet legal and regulatory requirements by defining automated data distribution rules crucial for industries like healthcare and finance.
  • Global Reach with Local Performance: By storing data closer to users across OCI data centers, the service improves latency and responsiveness for applications in sectors like entertainment, telecom, and retail.
  • Petabyte-Scale AI and OLTP Support: Handles massive volumes of data and millions of transactions per second, essential for AI models, image recognition, and large-scale marketing operations.

Apart from that, one of the biggest advantages is that this service supports the full Oracle Database and SQL stack. It allows companies to distribute databases globally without rewriting their applications. This lowers the entry barrier for businesses looking to expand across regions or meet stricter compliance requirements.
