New opinion poll finds Scottish Labour now in second place with Tories pushed to third

A new voting intention opinion poll has found that Scottish Labour are now sitting second in the constituency vote ahead of the Holyrood election on May 6.

The Survation poll, conducted on behalf of Scotland in Union, shows that Anas Sarwar 's party is now two percentage points ahead of the Scottish Tories.

According to the poll, which had 1,011 respondents, support for the SNP has dipped by six per cent compared to a poll carried out three weeks ago.

In the latest survey the SNP are on 46 per cent, while Labour are on 23 per cent, the Conservatives on 21 per cent and the Lib Dems on eight per cent.

Conducted between March 9 and 12 the poll shows the SNP is also top of the regional vote on 39 per cent, however the Tories would come second on 21 per cent.

Scottish Labour are one percentage point behind on 20 per cent, the Scottish Greens are on 10 per cent and the Lib Dems come in fifth place with eight per cent.

Just three weeks ago a Ipsos MORI poll showed that 52 per cent of people would vote for Nicola Sturgeon's party in the constituency vote.

In that same poll Labour lingered on 15 per cent, while the Tories had 23 per cent.

Labour's only Scottish MP Ian Murray said the party has made "significant progress" under the leadership of Sarwar who was elected in late February.

Murray, co-chair of Scottish Labour’s election campaign, said: "In just three weeks we’ve made significant progress under Anas’s leadership.

"He’s focused on what unites Scotland, and the only way to ensure that politicians prioritise national recovery is to use both votes for Labour in this election."
