New Omicron Covid symptoms that don't affect throat, nose or head

Two common symptoms in those who contract Omicron have emerged in new data from the world's largest Covid symptoms study.

Professor Tim Spector from the Zoe Covid study app has spoken of some unusual symptoms to be aware of.

He said in a YouTube video that nausea is being reported by many in the beginning stages of Covid caused by the Omicron variant.

Dr Sanket Jain, a pulmonology consultant at a hospital in Mumbai, India, also shared that “one of my patients, just five days back, got admitted with a complaint of loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting", according to the Express.

Dr Jain said: “As per protocol, we conducted an RT-PCR, and it came back positive.

“Such symptoms are commonly being observed nowadays especially in infections of Omicron."

Another lesser-known symptom being reported is back pain.

Experts have identified lower back pain as one of the core symptoms associated with the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Analysing data from the UK, US and South Africa - where Omicron was first identified - experts believe the early stages of an Omicron infection could see people displaying signs of lower back pain.

Dr Ryan Noach, the chief exec of South Africa-based Discovery Health, also said that the most common early sign was a scratchy throat and most of the symptoms are mild.

Alongside lower back pain, muscle aches throughout the body have also been reported.
