New Oktoberfest-themed business networking event is on its way to Derby

A new business networking event which aims to mirror Munich’s annual Oktoberfest is set to take place in Derby later this year.

Called Proptobier, the event will be aimed at people working in the East Midlands property and professional services sectors.

Taking place at the home of Derby’s award-winning Bustler Market, in John Street, on October 10, it will feature German food, music and beer.

The idea has come about thanks to a collaboration between Derby law firm Smith Partnership, Pride Park-based civil and structural engineers BSP Consulting and brand agency Champions.

Oktoberfest is held in Munich every year, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from around the world.

At Derby’s version, guests will be served with pretzels and a stein of Freedom Brewery beer on arrival, before tucking into German delicacies such as bratwurst and currywurst, provided by Get Wurst, while listening to a performance by oompah band the Bavarian Strollers.

There will also be funfair stalls, where visitors can win prizes, and an opportunity to ‘speed taste’ some of Freedom’s other beers.

Tom Erskine, business development executive at Smith Partnership, said he hoped the event would encourage some “serious business networking but in a fun environment”.

He said “We’re really excited to be working with BSP Consulting and Champions to bring Oktoberfest to the East Midlands.

“We hope to make this an annual event for the property and professional services sectors.

“We’re also thrilled to be working with Bustler Market, who have, over the last few years, demonstrated how successful it can be to use redundant commercial spaces for quirky event use.”

Matt Hayes, managing director at Champions, said: “This will be a very different, fun event for the region’s property and professional services sectors. Business and bratwurst – could there be a better combination?”

Jef Todd, business development director at BSP Consulting, said: “This is such a great event for the Derby business community and as a company based in the city we’re excited to be involved in organising something so unique. As it’s our 20th anniversary we have much to celebrate.

“By working alongside Smith Partnership and Champions to pick the best venue, food and drink, we hope this is going to be THE networking event of the year.”’
