New office head at St Philips Chambers

One of the region's largest barristers' chambers has appointed a new head.

St Philips Chambers has promoted Richard Atkins to lead its practice in Birmingham, taking over from Andrew Smith.

Mr Atkins, who has been with the chambers since 2002, is a specialist in criminal cases and was chairman of the Bar of England and Wales last year and leader of the Midland Circuit for three years until 2017.

He is also involved with both the Legal Services Board and the Bar Standards Board, dealing with the ongoing changes in regulation of the profession.

Mr Atkins said: "I am delighted to take on the role of head of St Philips Chambers and would like to publicly thank Andrew for the tremendous work he did while in office.

"These are interesting and challenging times for the legal sector.

"I will do my utmost to ensure that St Philips continues to be at the forefront of the legal profession and I look forward to working with our highly talented team of barristers and staff to meet the challenges ahead."
