New offense drew Brett Hundley to sign with Cardinals

New Arizona Cardinals quarterback Brett Hundley signed a one-year contract to come home and play in Arizona, where he played high school football. But coming home wasn’t the main reason why he came to the Cardinals.

It was the offense the Cardinals will run under first-year head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

“I think that’s first and foremost,” Hundley said at his introductory press conference. “The offense fits me. It’s something I’ve been wanting to play in for a long time and I can’t wait to get going.”

He came from a spread offense at UCLA led by offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone. It isn’t exactly the offense Kingsbury will run but the concepts must be similar.

“This offense is going to be fun,” he said.

He also is excited about coming and playing in a spread offense after learning two other offensive systems with the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks.

“All the knowledge I’ve gained, to finally come back and play in this offense and play in it now knowing everything else I know, I can’t wait,” he said.

He gets to play in a familiar offense in a familiar place with some familiar faces. It seems like a good fit for Hundley, even if it is in a backup role.
