New Nottingham Forest signing Marcus McGuane's message after Barcelona switch

Midfielder Marcus McGuane has spoken of his delight at signing for Nottingham Forest from Barcelona.

After something of a protracted transfer saga, the highly-rated midfielder yesterday put pen to paper for the Reds, on a deal until 2022, and will initially link up with Chris Cohen’s Under-23s side.

Forest had been working on a move for the 21-year-old for some time, but it was complicated by McGuane having been on loan at Dutch outfit Telstar.

The former Arsenal youngster says he is pleased the switch has “finally” been sorted, and has thanked fans for their messages of support.

Posting a picture of himself wearing the Garibaldi on Instagram, McGuane wrote: “Finally! Thank you for all the warm messages. Thankful for the opportunity to represent such a big club.

“Looking forward to the next couple of years.”

Greenwich-born McGuane joined the Gunners’ academy at the age of six, spending 12 years with their youth set-up.

He made two senior appearances for the Premier League side, in the Europa League, before heading to Spain in 2018, where he linked up with Barca’s B team.

In March of that year, he became the first English player to represent the Spanish giants for almost three decades, when he featured in the Catalan Super Cup final.
