New Nottingham Forest signing looks ahead to crunch Derby County clash as striker link emerges

Max Lowe says there will be no question where his loyalties now lie, as he could make his Nottingham Forest debut against former club Derby County.

The left-back has joined the Reds on a season-long loan from Sheffield United, and is available for selection in Saturday lunchtime’s crunch clash at Pride Park.

Lowe came up through the ranks at the Rams and made close to 50 appearances for the club, before switching to Bramall Lane last September.

He has not featured for his parent team this term, though, and could get his first minutes of the campaign when Chris Hughton’s men face their arch-rivals.

Derby frustration

Wayne Rooney says it was “frustrating” to see James Garner sign for Nottingham Forest rather than Derby County this summer.

The Manchester United midfielder is back at the City Ground for a second loan spell after proving a big hit last season.

Garner spent the second half of last term with the Reds and established himself as a key player in Chris Hughton’s side.

Forest were always keen for him to return on loan, but faced a fight to secure his signature - with the Rams among those battling to win that particular race.

Striker link

Nottingham Forest have “given up” on trying to sign Antalyaspor attacker Paul Mukairu and turned their attentions elsewhere, according to reports in Turkey.

The Reds are said to now have Besiktas forward Guven Yalcin in their sights, ahead of next week’s deadline.

Boss Chris Hughton desperately needs more attacking resources before the window closes, as his team have again struggled to find the back of the net in a wretched start to the season.

Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath, attacking midfielder Philip Zinckernagel, full-back Jordi Osei-Tutu and midfielder James Garner have been added so far, with Sheffield United left-back Max Lowe expected to become their fifth signing - ahead of Saturday’s clash with his former club, Derby County.

'Instant goosebumps'

Jordan Gabriel remembers celebrating in front of the Derby County fans as a ball boy for Nottingham Forest in a previous edition of the East Midlands rivalry.

On Saturday, he is hoping to be part of memorable celebrations again - this time on the Pride Park pitch.

This weekend’s meeting between the two sides will be the first one Nigel Doughty Academy graduate Gabriel has been involved in.

But having come up through the club, he is well aware of the intensity, energy and atmosphere around these fixtures.
