New Nottingham Forest boss talks transfers as players promised 'fresh start'

Transfer talk

New Nottingham Forest boss Chris Hughton was coy about speculation linking him with a move for Anthony Knockaert.

The Fulham midfielder is said to be on the Reds' radar as Hughton looks to tweak the squad he inherited from Sabri Lamouchi.

He has worked with Knockaert before, when he led Brighton and Hove Albion to the Premier League.

The player made the move to Fulham this summer, but has yet to make a top-flight appearance, with all three of his games coming in the Carabao Cup.

Fresh start

New boss Chris Hughton says his appointment can be a "fresh start" for all the players at Nottingham Forest.

Hughton says he will give everyone a chance to impress - potentially offering a route back into the fold for the likes of Gaetan Bong, Zach Clough and Michael Hefele.

The trio are part of a group which had been training separately to the rest of the first-team, with others, such as Albert Adomah and Yohan Benalouane, having already moved on.

Contract details

New boss Chris Hughton has revealed he has signed a two-year contract at Nottingham Forest - and has set out his "objective" of reaching the Premier League.

Hughton knows what it takes to get out of the Championship, having secured promotion with both Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion in the past.

He takes charge of a Reds side without any points after four league games, and which fell short of a top six finish last time around.

Time needed

Nottingham Forest have been urged to let new manager Chris Hughton 'build a club' in order to establish them in the Premier League.

That is the view of BT Sport commentator and BBC Radio Five Live presenter Darren Fletcher, who is convinced Hughton is not only capable of winning promotion, but keeping the Reds in the top flight, as he did with Brighton.

Speaking on the Garibaldi Red podcast, Fletcher said: "You have to say to him now 'build us a club, build us a club that can stay in the Premier League'.

"That at the end of the day is all they're trying to do.
