New Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi pictured during Reds first pre-season game

New Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi watched his team for the first time on Saturday afternoon.

The Frenchman was appointed on Friday afternoon, replacing Martin O’Neill following his sacking earlier in the day after a whirlwind few hours.

Lamouchi, a former France international who, during a stellar whose playing career included spells at Lyon and Inter Milan, was at the Impact Arena in Alfreton to cast an eye over his new squad, before taking charge of Tuesday's clash with Dundee in Murcia.

The 47-year-old arrived in the Derbyshire town with Reds’ chief executive Ioannis Vrentzos, and watched the game from the stands with chairman Nicholas Randall, club ambassador John McGovern and finance director Samantha Gordon.

Following O'Neill's sudden departure 24 hours earlier, Under-23 boss Jimmy Gilligan and his assistant Chris Cohen took charge of Forest’s pre-season opener.

Speaking before being unveiled as Forest boss on Saturday, Lamouchi expressed his delight at being given the Forest job.

“I am very happy, very excited,” he told French newspaper L’Equipe.

“It’s a big English football club with a huge history.

“I felt a lot of respect, investment in me. Being coach of a legendary club, it is a great pride. And this even counts in the Championship.

“The Championship is not necessarily known in France but it’s very long, very difficult.

"It’s a huge challenge. I approach it with a lot of ambitions, determination.”
