Building work is now complete at a new Nottingham play area which has officially opened.
The new play park, in Gabrielle Close, Basford, has been being funded by a £40,000 grant from FCC Communities Foundation and will provide a new castle themed play area, a ball court and a graffiti project from local artist, SmallKid design.
The project was spearheaded by a campaign from local residents who wanted a new children’s play area to replace their old, tired one, which was unused. Nottingham City Council said it has also been made possible with funding from the local ward councillors.
Councillor Dave Trimble, portfolio holder for leisure and culture at the city council said: "We are delighted that this play area is now complete.
“It’s great to see our vision for this vital community facility come to life. We are extremely grateful for the funding that FCC Community Foundation has given us and we’re looking forward to the local residents getting hours of fun from it.”
FCC Community Foundation is a not-for-profit business that awards grants for community, conservation and heritage projects from funds donated by FCC Environment through the Landfill Communities Fund.
Cheryl Raynor, FCC Community Foundation grant manager for Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Nottinghamshire, added: “It’s wonderful to see something we have funded finally open and ready to make such a difference to children in the local area.
"We are always happy to consider grant applications for projects that benefit local communities and this is a great example of what can be achieved.”
