New Northern Ireland manager set to be announced as fans patiently wait on

Irish FA chiefs are expected to name Northern Ireland's new manager today.

Interviews were held earlier this week to find Michael O'Neill's successor.

Under 21 coach Ian Baraclough and Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson are thought to be the favourites for the post alongside St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright.

Also interviewed this week were IFA Elite Performance Director Jim Magilton and Women's international boss Kenny Shiels.

It is understood Irish FA chief executive Patrick Nelson and the interview panel have reached agreement on their new man with an announcement expected today.

If Robinson gets the nod it is understood the IFA may have to pay out a hefty compensation package to Motherwell in the region of £100,000.

The 45-year-old still has two years remaining on his current contract at Fir Park, with the Steelmen keen to offer him an improved deal to keep him at the club.

Former goalkeeper Wright also boasts plenty of experience in the Scottish top flight, while Baraclough has made an impressive mark on Northern Ireland's Under 21 side since coming in as boss back in May 2017.
