New North Tyneside homes which builder claims will sort out dog mess problems set to be approved next week

Proposals for new homes which the developer claims will sort out dog mess and litter problems are set to be approved by the council.

Bellway Homes want to build 75 houses on land at the former Moorhouses covered reservoir in North Shields.

The developer claim plans to build dozens of homes on the site will clean up a space blighted by dog mess and litter.

If the plans are approved the developer will build 22 two-bedroom houses, 24 three-bedroom houses and 29 four-bedroom houses on the Billy Mill Lane site.

A planning statement submitted to North Tyneside Council stated that 19 of these houses would be classed as affordable housing, with 13 of them available to rent.

The document claimed that the area has become blighted by dog waste and litter but redeveloping it could sort the problems out.

It said: "Anti-social behaviour has rendered it somewhat of an undesirable location and there is evidence of dog fouling, litter and hazards such as broken glass making the site even less attractive for residents.

"Although natural surveillance exists in the form of surrounding properties, it is clear that issues of anti-social behaviour remain of significant concern and there exists an opportunity to address this through appropriate redevelopment of the site."

The council's planning department has thrown its backing behind the scheme, recommending it for approval, saying it would fit in with the area.

North Tyneside Council's planning committee are set to vote on the proposals on Tuesday.
